Big League Baseball Ages 16 - 18, Boys and Girls The Big League season starts after the high school baseball season finishes in late May or early June. Games include double-headers on Sundays. Magnolia often forms a Big league team instead of a Senior team and players can be recruited from outside the MLL boundaries. The field size is 90 foot base paths, and 60 foot pitching distance. Magnolia teams play teams from other areas throughout the season. Game Schedules and Scores may be looked up at the District 8 Umpires website, http://www.d8umpires.org/. Senior Baseball Ages 14 - 16, Boys and Girls Players at this level experience baseball as it will be played in high school and beyond. The field size is 90 foot base paths, and 60 foot pitching distance. Magnolia teams play teams from other areas throughout the season. Game Schedules and Scores may be looked up at the District 8 Umpires website, http://www.d8umpires.org/. Depending on the year, Magnolia Little League may form a Big League team instead of a Senior team. Junior Baseball Ages 13 - 14, Boys and Girls Players at this level begin to experience baseball as it will be played in high school and beyond. The field is larger (90 foot base paths instead of 60 foot). Magnolia teams play teams from other areas throughout the season. Game Schedules and Scores may be looked up at the District 8 Umpires website, http://www.d8umpires.org/. Teams are eligible to enter the District 8, end-of-season, Wooden Bat Tournament. Majors Baseball Ages 10 - 12, Boys and Girls The focus at this level of play is to introduce players to the bigger picture. Our primary goals are: * to coach our players on sound baseball fundamentals in the areas of hitting a live pitch, glove work, fielding, throwing and pitching technique. * to stress the importance of good sportsmanship in athletic competition. * to demonstrate how teamwork and commitment lead to excellence in competition. At this competitive level, players use the skills learned from several years of development. Standings are kept, culminating in tournament play, and All Star tournament play could conceivably culminate at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. For the 2008 season, the MLL Board voted to exclude 9 year olds from playing in the Majors baseball divisison. Depending on a variety of factors either All or Only New AAA Minors players will attend tryouts. See the Tryouts page for current attendance requirements. AAA Minors Baseball Ages 9 - 11, Boys and Girls The focus at this level of play is to introduce players to the bigger picture. Although still an instructional level program, players are introduced to the strategy of baseball as we begin to use rules more similar to baseball as they see it on TV. Players pitch all six innings, base stealing is allowed after the ball crosses the plate, and a regulation hard baseball is used. At this competitive level, players use the skills learned from several years of development. Standings are kept. Nine year olds with sufficient skills may be invited to "play up" to AAA on a space available basis. Little League International rules require 12 year old Baseball players to play in the Majors division. A Waiver of the rule can be sought by parents. All AAA Minors players must attend tryouts. AA Minors Baseball Ages 8-9, Boys & Girls At this level, players begin to learn the rules of baseball associated with innings (three outs instead of batting the entire team), strikeouts, and walks. In a six inning game, players pitch two innings and a pitching machine is used for four innings. A modified "flexi-ball" is used. No skills and evaluation tryouts will be held for registered AA Minor players (League age 8-9) instead postseason evaluations from the previous year will be used for team assignments. A few 9 year olds may be asked to play up in AAA on a space available basis. A Minors Baseball Age 7, Boys & Girls At this level, players are introduced to the extra hand to eye coordination that comes with hitting a moving ball. Each coach pitches to his own players. There are no balls and strikes; however, pitch count is seven, with the goal being for each player to put the ball in play. A game consists of 3 innings during which every player on the team bats each inning. A maximum of 10 players are allowed out on the field. This will help players to learn different positions and prepare them for AA division. A soft, safety "incrediball" is used. No skills and evaluation tryouts will be held for registered A Minor players (League age 7) instead post-season evaluations from the previous year will be used for team assignments. Six year olds who have played at least one year of TeeBall can petition to be evaluated for play in Single A. TeeBall Ages 5-6, Boys & Girls Magnolia Tee Ball provides an introduction to baseball basics. Boys and Girls ages 5, 6 and some 7 year olds are assigned to 10-12 person teams. Three coaches on each team help kids to learn rules, work on a team environment, and develop good habits early in their baseball careers. TeeBall is a fun introduction to teamwork for youngsters of all abilities. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to coach. A clinic and curriculum are provided to make this easy for inexperienced and experienced coaches alike. There are no try-outs for Tee Ball. Games are on Saturdays, are 3 innings long, and score is not kept. Each team will also have a 1 hour practice during the week. Tee Ballers get a cap and shirt. Kids need only bring a baseball glove and sneakers (soccer cleats are great). Senior Fastpitch Softball Ages 15-16, Girls Magnolia teams play teams from other areas throughout the season. Some 14 year olds may be drafted on a Seniors team based upon skill, space and ability. Junior Fastpitch Softball Ages 13-14, Girls Players at this level compete against teams from other areas throughout the season. Majors & AAA Fastpitch Softball Ages 10-12, Girls Minors: Although an instructional level program, players observe most of the basic rules applicable to fast pitch softball at more competitive levels. Majors: At this competitive level, players use the skills learned from several years of development. Statistics are kept, culminating in All Star tournament play. Combined with Majors, all 9-12 year olds players tryout, except those presently on a Majors team. AA Fastpitch Softball Ages 7-9, Boys & Girls At this level, players pitch to players using the underhand windmill delivery. Because mastery of this skill lags behind other hitting and fielding skills, coaches step in to pitch to a batter after four balls. |
